Our Journey

It all started, as it often does – with a dog, who’s diet wasn’t working for her. 

Meru was a young German Shepherd who despite trying numerous different foods, was having issues with her digestion. Vets advised that her issues would lead to her only living for a few years as her body was not absorbing the nutrients she required. It was a dog trainer who suggested trying raw chicken wings, and within 24 hours Meru was passing solid stools and digesting her food. 

This started a journey in which Colin, who is the owner of Merumhor, researched and learned what he could about raw feeding. This was more than 25 years ago, when raw was less commercial and some of the brands that Merumhor sell  were just forming! Through changing the diets of his 8 dogs, and seeing the benefits, Colin honestly believed that more dogs would thrive if fed a raw diet so he opened Merumhor. It began with a single freezer and a single brand. 

Now Merumhor has a store stocking more than 18 industry leading brands of raw, an online store and a home delivery service. The team has grown, and we now have a qualified instore Canine Nutritionist who leads the way in brand selection and customer advice. We offer one to one nutritional consultations, which ensure the advice you are given is individual to the nutritional needs of your dog.

We are extending that advice to ensure we can advise you on your cats’ nutritional requirements also.

There are many changes occurring in diets that we choose for our dogs and cats – and Merumhor, as a family run, independent stockist, very much look forward to supporting  customers in the best way possible by keeping up to date with the current research and changes in the industry.
